Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that isn't answered here please use the contact form or email eastfreoplaygroup@gmail.com (but please remember we are all volunteers with young children, so it may take us a couple of days to get back to you).
What do I need to bring? What is provided?
Tea and coffee are provided for adults and there are cups, plates, bowls, chopping boards and knives available to use. You will need to bring your own food but please bear in mind that we have a strict NO NUTS policy as a number of members have allergies. Each session has their own way of doing things; some sessions bring a piece of fruit per child for a shared morning tea, some sessions bring individual snacks for their children and some sessions have a roster for bringing snacks/share plates. Your Session Contact will advise you of how your session usually manages food/snacks.
How big are the sessions?
To ensure a pleasant environment, each session is limited to 20 families or 35 children. For this reason, please contact us to check session availability before attending trial sessions or enroling to attend.
Can I come and try a session before joining?
You are welcome to attend 2 trial sessions prior to joining. If the first session you try doesn't really fit your needs, you may like to try a different session time to see if it's a better fit.
You will need to check in with our QR code each time, for insurance purposes.
When does Playgroup run?
Our playgroup now runs all year round!
School holiday sessions are at the discretion of existing members and therefore we do not run trial sessions during school holidays.
Memberships are term/ semester or full year based and include school holidays following each term. Term dates can be found here: https://www.education.wa.edu.au/future-term-dates
How do I join?
Enrolments are completed via this website under the 'memberships' heading.
Before you enrol, please get in touch with us to organise your 2 free trial sessions and to check session availability.
I'm having trouble joining, what do I do?
Get in touch with us here & we'll help you figure out the solution: eastfreoplaygroup@gmail.com
Do I need to live in East Fremantle to come to this Playgroup?
No. Our members live in East Fremantle as well as Palmyra, Fremantle, Hilton, Melville, Cockburn, North Fremantle, Mosman Park and further afield.
Do I have to join Playgroup WA?
Yes. We are affiliated with Playgroup WA and part of your membership fee is passed on to them. Playgroup WA provides comprehensive insurance cover for all our activities as well as providing support, resources and discounts to our members and committee.
Can a Grandparent/Aunt/Uncle/Nanny bring my child to playgroup, if I'm unable to attend one week?
Absolutely! We just ask that the adult carer for your child/children signs both the Attendence Register for your child, and the Visitor's register for themselves.
I have a child who is over 5 years old. Are they also able to come along to Playgroup sessions sometimes?
Unfortuantely the answer is no, as playgroup is for children aged 0-5.
Why hasn't someone got back to me yet?
Our playgroup is run by parent volunteers. We all have young children and many of us have returned to work too. We do our best to fit things in when the kids are asleep or quiet but they are still our priority. We apologise if we take a couple of days to get back to you.
Can I hire the playgroup venue for a children's birthday party?
Our playgroup building (Sumpton Green) is owned by the Town of East Fremantle and therefore we are not involved with the hiring of the facility. Belgravia Leisure have taken over the management of the East Fremantle Community Park, including the playgroup venue outside playgroup hours. Please contact them via email on CLee3@belgravialeisure.com.au or info@eastfremantlecommunitypark.com.au if you wish to hire the venue for a child's party.
Please note, the area for hire is the large middle room (the child health nurse waiting area) which has access to the toilets and kitchen. The hire of Sumpton Green does not include access to the playroom or shed.
